Andy to the rescue
A diabetic woman fell out in the department store earlier (I was looking for a bow tie to wear to med school prom Friday).
The store clerk clearly was freaking out, so I went over and checked on her, asked her some screening questions, and held her hand until EMS arrived.
When she got on the stretcher she gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek and said “Thank you, baby.”
Medicine comes in all different flavors. I think it’s important to remember that even if you don’t do anything, keeping someone company and talking to them when they’re scared might be enough.
I was scared too, so the hand-holding was probably mutually beneficial.
